Amplitude reflects the energy of the sound wave and is related to physical intensity and the subjective volume perceived by each listener.
Greater amplitude implies more sound energy and normally greater perceived volume, although perception also depends on frequency; certain sounds seem louder than others despite having similar energy, due to the variable sensitivity of the human auditory system.
